A New Research on Petofi’s Heroic Life and His Indistinct Death

    • According to the materials newly-gathered by the author himself in Hungary, the author narrates Petofi’s family, his childhood and school life, the course of his poem-creating and the process of his joining the revolution in 1848. For more than 150 years on, two different versions about Petofi’s death have been transmitted in the world:one version considers that Petofi died as a martyr in battle against Russian-Austrian invaders in 1848,another considers that he was captured by Czarist-Russia army and died several years later in Siberia as a prisoner. The author points out that debate is pointless and conclusionless. The intrinsic of the debate is how we should venerate history and treat POW. Petofi was, is and will be forever the greatest poet of Hungary and one of the most outstanding poets in the world,no matter whether he died as a hero in battle or was captured by enemy and died as a prisoner in a sad plight.
