The Structural Types of Research Paper Titles in English

    • Research paper titles can be categorized into phrase-type titles, clause-type titles, sentence-type titles, and compound titles. Phrase-type titles include noun phrases, gerundial phrases, prepositional phrases and infinitive phrases. Clause-type titles are generally nominal clauses introduced by such words as what, how, why, and where. Sentence-type titles cover interrogative sentences, declarative sentences, and imperative sentences. Compound titles bear a subtitle that specifies the scope of research, illustrates the adopted approach, raises a question, or provides an answer.
