Fire Risk Assessment of the Main Urban Area of Zhangjiakou Based on AHP-GIS

    • Evaluating the fire susceptibility of a region is instrumental in the planning and allocation of fire-fighting facilities. To appraise the fire risk level and its distribution in the main urban area of Zhangjiakou, it employed the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to establish a fire risk assessment framework. This framework was constructed based on urban basic information, fire risk hotspots, and rescue and protection capabilities. Utilizing the GIS spatial analysis techniques, graded layers of each weighted factor were acquired. Through layer overlay operations, a fire risk zoning map of the urban area was generated. The results show that spatial disparities exist in both fire risk levels and fire-fighting capabilities across the study area. The inner-circle old urban area in the western part exhibits a relatively high overall fire risk; however, it is also equipped with relatively ample fire-fighting resources. The outer-circle non-core urban area in the western region has an overall lower fire risk compared to the old urban area, yet its fire risk is on a gradual upward trend. The eastern suburban area generally has a low risk, but it harbors key risk elements such as chemical factories, and is characterized by relatively weak fire-fighting capabilities.
